Dear All,
Section Update August 2005
1. SHF League Update
Women Premier (WP) A very brave fight we had on the 25th June where we lost narrowly to the Theresians, the eventual champions, who subsequently beat SRC 4-1 at the Finals. So… we are joint 3rd with Police. A very good season and we will do better next year!!
Women Division 2 (W2) The WP played well too with a team made of more juniors and some of us who …umm…have been around for quite a while. It was not as tense as the Premier league games and we had some fun, amidst some of the tense moments that we can always do without. We finished 5th out of 9 teams, not too bad an achievement for a more social division.
Division 1 (W1) This has started and Ms Rose'Ain as captain leads the team. A majority junior team, as we wanted this to be a development league for the JSM. We made a 'not-more-than-4 seniors' allowed on the pitch rule. We have to date won 1 game against Police, lost 2 games against SRC and Crescent. The latter 2 games were played back to back and also after the Indoor Hockey on 30 July, Saturday. Almost overdosed with hockey that weekend, but it was nevertheless a good weekend. 3 more games to go and we hope to get into the Semi's.
U18 I know the scores do not show well for this league, we lost the 3 games, 2 narrowly, 0-1 to SRC and Crescent, and 0-3 to CSC. But I am still very happy with our junior squad, led by Miskarmalia. Many are new to the section and some are still new to the game, but they have so much commitment and determination, the burning desire to improve that we have seen significant jumps in performance. They will led towards the strengths for Division 1 and then form a strong U21 for next season before the cream of the crop will represent us in the Premier League next year.

2. Friendly Tournaments
Interport against RSC on 9 July 2005 This has always been tough for us and the cup still remains with RSC after more than 10 years! They have a very strong junior squad and with just 3 senior players, we are no match for them with superior skills and fitness. A 0-5 loss was a reminder of the score we last had with them in KL 2 years ago… sigh! But we must always work at it and hopefully we will see SCC engraved on the cup in the near future.
Friendly against Greenwood School 12 July Good to play teams from overseas as an exposure for our players. Our opponents were aged 16-18 and were excellent exposure for our junior players. Won both games against their junior and senior squad, 3-0 and 3-1. We held a reception at the club after the game.
SCC Indoor Hockey Tournament 30 Jul 2005 This was another much looked forward event as indoor is fun! But very tiring as Coach Kevin can vouch for it. This was planned more for the youth development with seniors coming in strength to boost the event and increase the standard of play. Rose organised the league with Richard from the Hockey Section and though both could not meet the 7 am arrival time to set up the pitch, the games were run well and on schedule. An initial confusion on the number of players allowed on each game saw yellow cards sending players out, but we soon got our act together. We played in 2 leagues, 5 teams each. It was fun to see the youngsters especially Dankar's young boys from St Michael's School. It was funny to watch, though maybe not for them when Richard who was very strict with the rules sent 2 boys off on yellow cards leaving the ACS team 2 players and a keeper to play. 10 minutes per game saw us play past 12 noon with 2 play offs, the top M team against the officials and the top L team against the 2nd team from the M league.
Photos can be seen on this link: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2122964273&code=17501620&mode=invite&DCMP=isc-email-AlbumInvite I will put in in the SCC website in due course.
And many thanks to all the helpers who woke up bright and early to help with the sideboards.
Siew Hua's 'Farewell' Game and Makan
This is today in case you still do not know. Siew Hua is leaving for London on 3 Septmeber for her fellowship attachment be a world class journalist and we fear that she will like the life there so much that she will not return! She has been an excellent goalkeeper with the Premier team and we wish her success in her fellowship with this social. Also as important is that we really miss playing friendlies with our SCC guys, a weekly event that used to be at the Padang that we now do not have and sorely miss. So we look forward to a fun evening on the pitch and at the Marquee at the club, a get-together for both the sections.
